Construction on the new Bonsai Pavilion at the Wild Animal Park

The new Pavilion at the Wild Animal Park (WAP) is scheduled to be built over the next two years. On December 16th, 2005, we had our first work day. About ten people showed up for the beginning of the hard work.
Located where the old Fuchsia House once was, the new location is about four times larger than the original pavilion. It's only a few more steps up the hill, and will allow the club to have room for club classes and better work areas, as well as a much nicer display of the collection's trees.

Not a very auspicious entrance, really. The path is overgrown and the hanging shadecloth is depressing. We don't know what we will find behind this black drape, but the morning is young and we came with TOOLS.

Lots of tools.

Good thing, too.

This isn't good. Nope, not good at all. What a mess.

Notice the benches sitting forlornly under the falling shadecloth. There were quite a few benches, which had once been a quiet place for visitors to rest. When this had been the Fuchsia House, people sitting at these benches would enjoy the shade and the cool humidity sprayers during the hottest part of the day. In Escondido, where the Wild Animal Park is located, temperatures are hot and dry for much of the summer.
